On Saturday March 22, 2014, at about 1:43pm DPD and DFR responded to a health and welfare check in the 6200 block of Martel Avenue to check on a resident.
The homeowner, a W/M/67, had not been seen or heard from since March 15, 2014. Friends had come to the home to check on him. The witnesses had stated that the resident was not feeling well and failed to show up at an event.
Patrol Officers and Dallas Fire Rescue responded and attempted to search the home for the person. Due to the extreme amount of debris in the home, rescue personnel were unable to locate the resident.
DFR personnel were forced to search for the resident by cutting holes in the roof and crawling through the attic to gain access to the home. DFR members searched through multiple piles of debris in an attempt to locate the resident.
A search team with a cadaver search dog was brought to the home but failed to locate the resident.
Due to the circumstances the City Attorney’s office was contacted to obtain a warrant to provide a removal process of the debris from inside the home. A contractor was secured to begin the removal process.
Today, at approximately 11:57am, the contractors reported that they had found a dead body inside the home. Homicide detectives are investigating. The next of kin has not been notified.
