On March 25, 2014 at 12:40 A.M., Officers Aaron Tobkin, #9823, and Yahir Perez, #10407, were dispatched on an armed encounter call at 4904 Haverwood Lane. The victim and suspect who are roommates were involved in an argument. The argument escalated with the suspect retrieving a pistol, pointed it at the victim, and threatened to kill him.
As officers were interviewing the victim, the suspect drove past them in the suspect vehicle. Officers were able to perform a felony traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle in the 4800 block of Haverwood Lane. The suspect gave the officers verbal consent to search his vehicle, but not to search the witness’ purse. Sgt. Richard Rossman, #6052, responded to the scene and prevented the witness from leaving with the purse, which was believed to contain the pistol used during the offense.
The suspect, who had been placed under arrest then admitted to the officers that the pistol was in fact inside the witness’ purse. Sgt. Rossman then picked up the purse and felt a metallic object inside of the soft fabric, which was consistent with a handgun. Sgt. Rossman recovered the semi-automatic pistol from the purse.
The arrestee was charged with Aggravated Assault F/2 (F/V) and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm F/3. A check of the weapon revealed the handgun was stolen out of Duncanville. The offense is documented on case number 69934-B.
