An active shooter is defined by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. In our world today that could be a place of work, leisure, church, school or just about anywhere. A great question to ask ourselves is if you’re faced with an active shooter situation, “would you know what to do?”

Dallas police officer Gerald Wilson decided that people should know and began to teach just that, how to survive. The training began with only downtown area businesses and is now offered throughout the city. The curriculum begins with everyday safety techniques and concludes with training that teaches how to survive an active shooter situation. In the active shooter section of the training, participants learn the motto “Run, Hide,” and surprisingly to some, “Fight”. Training provides insight and techniques proven to help preserve life in active shooter environment. sa
