Stowaways take 8 Hour Ride from South Texas

TruckImagine driving down the highway and suddenly someone begins banging on the roof of your vehicle.  That’s exactly what happened to a truck driver in Dallas last night.

The driver was traveling northbound on I-35 coming through downtown Dallas shortly before 8:00pm when he heard someone start banging on the roof of the cab of his truck.   Oddly enough, this was not the first time this had happened to him.

He called 9-1-1 and continued driving.  He drove from I-35, through the downtown canyon and onto northbound Central Expressway.  Dallas police worked to catch up to him and did so just past Walnut Hill Ln.  When he pulled over, police detained the suspects.

The two stowaways advised that they were Honduran nationals and went on to explain that they had climbed onto the roof of the truck in Edinburg, Texas – an 8 hour drive south of Dallas near the border with Mexico. Once the temperatures dropped after night fall, they got very cold and began banging on the roof of the cab to get the driver to stop.

Officers transported the suspects to the Dallas County Jail where they were interviewed by representatives of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) but were eventually released.

The pair was lucky to have survived the ride.  (Dallas Police case# 102487B)
