Trend Alert: Machete Robberies

Trend MapDuring the time span of May 12, 2014, through May 20, 2014, Robbery detectives have identified three aggravated robberies where the suspect(s) displayed a machete during the commission of the offenses. The first recognized offense (114664-B) occurred on May 12, 2014, at approximately 8:45 pm, in the 1700 block of John West Road. The victim was sitting in his vehicle after leaving a friend’s house when the suspect opened the door holding a handgun in one hand and a machete in the other. The suspect, described as a Black male 25 years old, held the gun to the victim’s head and demanded his property. The victim complied and the suspect subsequently fled the scene without injuring the victim.

In another offense (121369-B) that occurred on May 20, 2014, at approximately 5:15 am, two suspects, both described as Black males in their 20s, used deadly weapons against a victim in the 7600 block of Indian Ridge Trail. One suspect held a gun to the victim’s head while the second suspect put a machete to his back and demanded his property. The victim was not injured. A short time later at approximately 5:41 am, a victim was checking his mailbox in the 5100 block of Mark Trail Way when he was suddenly approached from behind by two suspects, described as Black males in their 20s wearing dark clothing. In this offense (121377-B), one suspect pointed a handgun at the victim while the second suspect held a machete. Suspects shoved the victim to the ground and took his property. One of the suspects then kicked the victim in the back of the head before fleeing the location. The victim sustained swelling to the back of his head.
