Monday Morning Shootings

On Monday, August 18, 2014, patrol officers responded to a shooting call at a convenience store at 2911 E. Ledbetter Drive, regarding a person shot at another location.  Officers found a 16-year-old juvenile shot in the upper leg and ankle. This juvenile was transported and treated at Baylor Hospital and was interviewed by detectives. He has been released from the hospital and is with family members.

A second shooting call was reported at the same time, at 3015 E. Ledbetter Drive, The Rosemont Apartments, and 16-year-old Kenneth Lovely was found deceased in the breezeway. Officers found another juvenile who was present when Mr. Lovely was killed. This juvenile male was not injured.

The two juvenile witnesses identified the three suspects and have stated that all three suspects were armed and approached them in the breezeway and demanded that they empty their pockets.

While one of the suspects robbed one of the juveniles, Mr. Lovely attempted to run and was shot by two suspects. The second juvenile then attempted to run and was shot by Isaiah McWilliams as he fled. This victim was found at the convenience store on Ledbetter. The third juvenile was able to get away without being injured.

Both Cody Demond Waters, a 22-year-old black male, born 05-19-1992 and Isaiah McWilliams, an 18-year-old black male, born 02-01-1996, have been arrested for Capital Murder and are being held on $1,000,000 bond each, for the murder of Mr. Lovely.

A third suspect, Demarcus Johnson-Phillips, a 22-year-old black male, born 02-02-92, is currently at large.

Below are the probable cause affidavits for the three suspects responsible for Mr. Lovely’s death.

We reported that this murder might have been connected with the murder of Billy Baker at 2900 Prince Hall that occurred at around 4 a.m. yesterday. The investigation into Mr. Baker’s death continues and we have no further updates at this time.
