Townhall Meeting – Friendship West Baptist Church

Chief David O. Brown expressed his thanks to Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III – Senior Pastor of the Friendship West Baptist Church for hosting last night’s Town Hall meeting on police use of force and officer-involved shootings.  He also expressed his thanks to Sheriff Lupe Valdez and to District Attorney Craig Watkins for their participation as well.

“Since becoming Chief I have implemented a more comprehensive use of force reporting system, enhanced the department’s consensual search policy to include a requirement for written and/or recorded consent, assembled a community policing strategic team of officers from Community Affairs and developed more youth outreach programs to better engage the communities we serve.  Furthermore, we have requested the purchase of 200 body cameras and 2000 Tasers for use in the field along with a number of other policy and procedure changes designed to facilitate better training and oversight.  The Dallas Police Department remains committed to transparency, honesty and the fundamentals of due process.  We will continue to engage in dialogue with the citizens and solicit their input and support.” – Chief Brown
