On October 1st, at approximately 5:14pm, officers responded to a robbery call at 4807 Maple Ave. Detectives arrived on scene and were able to obtain a direction of travel and description of the suspect through video surveillance.   The Officers and Detectives began to search a wooded area adjacent to the location that was robbed. While searching the area, officers heard noises in the creek and spotted a person matching the suspect description. They gave loud verbal commands ordering him to come out. After the suspect refused to come out, Officers went into the heavily wooded area to arrest him.  As they approached the suspect, according to the officers, they  believed that the suspect was reaching for a weapon. One officer discharged his weapon but did not strike the suspect. The officers made physical contact with the suspect and a struggle ensued. One of the officers deployed a taser and as a result they were able to gain control of the suspect and take him into custody. No officers were injured. A handgun has been recovered. There is still more work to do in this investigation. We will provide an update tomorrow.
