On October 4, 2014, the Dallas Police Department Office of Community Affairs partnered up with the City of Dallas and various organizations in a continual effort to improve police and community relations. The 14th Annual Asian Heath & Safety Fair was a successful one with over 800 attendees and 280 free flu shots administered. Officers passed out free fruits and vegetables to all attendees, which were generously donated by the North Texas Food Bank & Sam’s Club. Volunteers from the Vietnamese Health Professional Association were present to give citizens medical exams to address vision, dental, diabetes, cholesterol, and much more. Leaders of the Asian community and Councilman Jerry Allen made an appearance in support of the Dallas Police Department and their efforts to engage with the community. The Dallas Fire Department was there to promote fire safety, while the Dallas Police Department had officers from its Sex Offender Apprehension Program, Kids & Cops, Police Explorers, and the Youth Outreach Program to provide the public information to better their community. Festivities included a dragon dance, martial arts exhibitions, and a performance by a Korean Soprano. Join us next year as we aim to make the 15th Annual Asian Health & Safety Fair bigger and better!
