Critical Incident: 9500 Brockbank Drive

dpd stock photoOn October 19, 2014, at approximately 6:40 p.m., officers responded to a Disturbance Armed Encounter on Foot call at the 3200 block of Storey Lane, which involved the suspect, a 45 year old Latin male. Upon arrival, officers broadcasted over the radio that the suspect had left the location on foot and that he was armed with a screw driver. Officers searched the immediate area and located the suspect in an apartment complex at the 9500 block of Brockbank Drive. The suspect had used a cinder block to break a sliding glass patio door and entered an apartment without the consent of the owner. Once inside, the suspect picked up a vase and threw it through the front window. Officers observed the suspect exit the apartment through the front door and they issued verbal commands for him to stop. The suspect complied with the officers’ commands and was handcuffed without incident. The suspect was placed in a sitting position outside of the apartment. He began to exhibit signs of medical distress and the officers called for an ambulance. Officers reported that the suspect appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. The suspect was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital by Dallas Fire-Rescue.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at 8:04 P.M. by Parkland Memorial Hospital personnel. Hospital personnel found a vial containing an unknown liquid substance in the suspect’s personal property.

Investigative efforts to notify the suspect’s next of kin are continuing.

This is an ongoing investigation. Cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s office.
