On February 12, 2015, at approximately 12:10 a.m., the alarm for a bait car sounded at the Northwest Patrol Subdivision. A Latin male suspect, later identified as Matthew Martinez, was attempting to take an air compressor from a City of Dallas bait car located at the 8100 block of N. Stemmons Freeway. After his efforts were thwarted by tangled straps, Martinez got back into the suspect vehicle, which was driven by Leonardo Garza and occupied by Juan Olivarez. The suspects fled the scene. However, the offense was recorded by the bait car’s camera, and covert officers were ready to follow the suspect vehicle. Uniformed Patrol Officers Eggleston #6126, Pillar #8786, Webb #7558, Khan #10136, and Parker #10123, were able to apprehend the suspects in the 2600 block of N. Stemmons Freeway. The suspects were transported to the Northwest Investigative Unit and interviewed by Detective Kyle Hensley, #6483. All three suspects were arrested for Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and placed in Lew Sterrett Jail. With the help of new tchnology, such as the bait cars, officers are on the look-out for criminals lurking in the shadows. This offense was documented on case number 033282-2015.
