On Wednesday, February 18, 2015, the Dallas Police Award Committee along with Dallas County District Attorney Susan Hawk, Chief David Brown and First Assistant Chief Charles Cato honored 2014 Officer of the Year, Detective Kenneth Ellis. The award is given for daily courage, excellence, leadership and community involvement.
Detective Kenneth Ellis, #5177, has served with the Dallas Police Department for 29 years. Detective Ellis has provided investigative support to the Southwest Investigations Unit in a professional and exemplary manner for the past 21 years. He was nominated for his superior performance and dedication to the citizens of Dallas. As a detective, he has maintained an exceptional resolution rate for the criminal offenses assigned to him.
Detective Ellis also participated in the committee that helped implement the “Impact Offender” program. This program has ensured that repeat offenders are given stricter sentencing. The longer prison sentences have brought much needed relief and offense reduction to the communities these offenders target.
