To inform you – Oncor is upgrading the transmission electric grid and using helicopters to install the equipment in order to minimize the impact on the grid and to customers. We regret any alarm this may cause and will complete the work as quickly and as safely as possible.
This practice is nothing new and is performed by utilities across the country. This practice is completely safe in order so not to disrupt the electric service. We are working with a company that is highly trained in transmission utility work by helicopter. These “helicopter lineman” have an abundance of experience in this type of work. Landing zones for refueling and restocking are pre-determined before work ever begins. This work lends itself to a helicopter because of:
- A lack of easy access to many rights-of-way in the required areas.
- The wire’s light weight.
- It makes it quicker and means we are not driving into easements or through neighborhoods.
We will notify the residents in advance that may see or hear the helicopter in their neighborhood. Attached the picture of the Helicopter with the identification number clearly identified for your reference. The work will continue in areas of Dallas through the end of the year.
Areas where work will be conducting this work include;
- Centerville
- Kirkland Park
- Mt. Creek
- West Levee
- Cedar Crest
- TI
- Renner
- Northaven
