Communications Division Springs into Easter

Easter is a widely celebrated holiday of powerful religious importance and popular secular customs such as the Easter bunny, decorated eggs, and candy. Easter represents the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter also represents the celebration of Spring and new life, symbolized by the bunny. In the United States, approximately 90 million chocolate bunnies and 16 billion jelly beans are produced each year for Easter. More than 88% of parents prepare Easter baskets for their kids to enjoy. Recently, the employees from our Communications Division collected toys, baskets, and candy in order to assemble Easter baskets for needy children. This initiative came from 9-1-1 call taker, Verlene Beheler, who organized it with the help of Betty Wafer. This project was driven solely by the 9-1-1 call takers and their generous hearts.  Verlene, Betty, and their fellow comrades donated their time and money to make Easter memorable for more than just a handful of children. These baskets were then picked up by DPD officers and delivered to various families and shelters. We thank all the members at the Communications Call Center for their proactive involvement in the community. As we enter a season of warm sunshine and flourishing flowers, the Dallas Police Department wishes everyone a joyous Easter.
