Chief Brown Announces Overall Crime is Down

dpd-stock-photoIn Public Safety meeting today, Chief David O. Brown will announce that overall crime is down by 2% in the City of Dallas.  This reduction is driven by the decrease in property crime, which is down by 3.8%.

The biggest challenge that the Department faces is violent crime, which is up by 9%.  Violent crime is the most significant crime challenge that the Department will face in over 14 years.  Although we have cut violent crime in half over the past 14 years, we will continue to be more aggressive in attacking this challenge while respecting the civil rights of our citizens.   Officers will continue to put themselves in harm’s way to reduce crime; therefore, they will need your support more than ever.
