The subject arrested by Dallas Police Officers at 5400 North Jim Miller Road on June 8, 2015, has been identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as Ross Anthony B/M/9-21-1989. An autopsy was performed today. The cause of death is pending.
Four officers from the Southeast Patrol Division were involved in the arrest.
Sergeant Daniel Cordero (L/M with 19 years, 3 months tenure)
Sergeant Ned Charles (B/M 14 years, 1 month)
Police Officer James MacDonald (W/M 2 years, 1 month)
Police Officer Paul Kessenich (W/M 1 year, 10 months) deployed and used his TASER.
Numerous citizens called 911 reporting the behavior of Mr. Anthony. Mr. Anthony was running into the traffic lanes, approaching vehicles and banging on the windows of nearby businesses. Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics passing by observed this behavior and attempted to assist Mr. Anthony. He banged his fists on the hood of the ambulance and entered into another citizen’s vehicle as officers arrived on scene. Officers then attempted to talk Mr. Anthony out of the car. Mr. Anthony opened the door slightly after a short negotiation and officers were able to grasp him. Mr. Anthony resisted as officers removed him from the car. Officer Paul Kessenich used his TASER at this point. Mr. Anthony began to show signs of medical distress shortly after he was handcuffed. The paramedics at the scene then provided immediate medical attention to Mr. Anthony.
Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit have interviewed several witnesses to the incident. The involved officers are scheduled to be interviewed on June 11, 2015.
The officers have been placed on routine Administrative Leave per Departmental policy.
