UPDATE June 16, 2015: The officer involved in the shooting incident at 2600 W. Colorado Blvd. on June 12, 2015, is identified as Senior Corporal Jose Bernal. Senior Corporal Bernal is currently assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division. He has 8 years, 5 months service. The juvenile involved in the incident has been charged with Evading Arrest.
On Thursday, June 11, 2015, at approximately 10:47 p.m., Dallas police officers were dispatched to a call regarding a robbery in the 2700 block of Avon Street. The comments on the call stated there were three suspects, armed with shotguns. Officers were given a description of a white Ford Expedition as the suspect vehicle.
At 11:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to a call regarding a prowler in the 2600 block of Creative Place. The comments on the call stated that there were three males in that apartment complex, looking over patios.
Plain clothed officers were in the area and observed a white Ford Expedition leave the 2600 block of Creative Place and travel toward Ft. Worth Avenue.
At approximately 12 midnight, a marked Dallas police squad car got behind the suspect vehicle and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. The suspect drove to 2600 W. Colorado Boulevard.
The suspects exited the white Ford Expedition and fled on foot. A foot pursuit ensued, at which time one officer discharged his weapon.
