U.S. Senator John Cornyn joined crime victims’, victims’ rights advocates, law enforcement officials, and murderabilia expert Adam Kahan for a press conference hosted at the Dallas Police Department Headquarters on September 2, 2015 at 10:45 a.m. The press conference highlighted the need for legislation to combat the exploitation and profit of criminal activity from violent offenders.
The Stop the Sale of Murderabilia Act would prevent criminals from profiting from their deplorable crimes and reputations by prohibiting state or federal prisoners from knowingly mailing any item for the purpose of interstate commerce. Murderabilia refers to the industry in which goods owned or created by convicted murderers are sold for profit. It sensationalizes violent crimes, hinders victims’ healing process, and allows criminals to profit off of violent crimes.
During the press conference, Senator Cornyn discussed the parameters of the Stop the Sale of Murderabilia Act and crime victims shared their stories about the effects of murderabilia sales.
