On September 27, 2015, at about 7:30am, a young mother was taking her three children to enjoy the State Fair of Texas. As she arrived, she saw that her 2-year old son had stopped breathing. Fortunately, she was parking on the State Fair grounds and was near a gate where a police officer was stationed. She frantically began screaming for help. Senior Corporal Matt Gnagi, a 33 year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, heard the screams and immediately responded. Senior Corporal Gnagi began CPR on the small child and continued until the child was able to breathe on his own. Dallas Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the child to a local hospital. Officers have visited with the child this morning and he has made a remarkable recovery.
Senior Corporal Gnagi’s actions saved the child’s life and are representative of the commitment Dallas Police Officer have to the public. The Dallas Police Department and the State Fair of Texas are very proud of Senior Corporal Matt Gnagi.
