SYNOPSIS OF SHOOTING BASED ON THE WITNESS ACCOUNT:
On September 30, 2015, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Officers responded to a call regarding the subject who was armed with a handgun and threatening suicide. Officers arrived and made contact with the subject, who was not cooperative. Officers tried to talk the subject into coming out of his house for approximately 30 minutes. The subject exited the house and went back inside more than once. Finally, the subject exited the house and pointed a gun at the officers. Officer Zabriskie fired one round at the subject and missed. The subject surrendered and was not injured. No officers were injured. The subject’s handgun was recovered. The officer has been placed on routine administrative leave per departmental policy. This investigation is on-going.
On September 30, 2015, at approximately 3:28 pm, officers responded to a call in the 4200 block of Wiley College Drive regarding an armed individual that was threatening to harm himself. Upon arrival, officers began negotiating with the suspect who was walking in and out of the residence with a gun. Officers negotiated with the suspect for about 45 minutes. At some point an officer discharged their weapon, but did not strike the suspect. The suspect walked back inside the residence and put the weapon down. The suspect walked outside and was taken into custody without incident. No officers were injured. This is still an active scene and the investigation is ongoing and will be documented on case number 226926-2015.
