Update November 20, 2015:
With a series of violent crimes occurring in the Oak Lawn area, the Dallas Police Department has stepped up its efforts to prevent any more individuals from being victimized. In addition to increased community collaboration with citizens, crime watch groups and businesses, the department has created a special task force that will further increase police presence in the area.
The task force includes investigators from assaults and robbery units, along with detectives from intelligence, patrol officers and undercover officers who will all be assigned to the Oak Lawn area. Investigators assigned to the task force will respond to the scene of any offense to begin an immediate follow-up investigation.
The task force includes additional officers — both uniformed and undercover — assigned to patrol the Oak Lawn area.
In addition, CrimeStoppers has agreed to double its reward from $5,000 to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of anyone involved in these crimes.
Safety tips:
Only walk in well-lit areas and not alone. Be aware of your surroundings and call 911 if you see any suspicious individuals. If you have had too much to drink call a cab instead of walking.
