UPDATE: April 11, 2016 at 3:00 p.m.
On April 10, 2016, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 1100 block of Galicia Lane. Upon arrival, officers located the home owner, Jose Nicolas Olivas Jr., Latin male 30-years-old, deceased laying in the door way of the residence. The victim had been shot several times with a handgun. A witness at the location stated that Danny Evelio Cruz, a 20-year-old Latin male, came over to the residence looking for his former common-law spouse, who was not there and who had recently ended their relationship. An argument between the victim escalated and Suspect Cruz shot and killed Mr. Olivas. Cruz then fled the location.
Cruz then went to the house belonging to his ex-spouse’s mother in the 9700 block of Kittyhawk Lane. When his ex-spouse’s mother came to the door, Cruz shot the mother once in the hip. She was taken to Baylor Hospital where she remains in stable condition.
At about 8:30 a.m. this morning, Dallas Fire Rescue and Dallas Police received another call to the 1100 block of Galicia Lane regarding two Latin males in their 20’s setting fire to a house on that block. The investigation by Dallas Fire Arson investigators is currently underway and we investigating if that is related to the original calls.
Following those events, Dallas Police obtained a warrant for the arrest of Cruz for the offense of Murder and began actively searching for him. Officers observed him at a park in the 400 block of N. Prairie Creek where he got into a vehicle. Officers initiated a traffic stop and Cruz was taken into custody without incident. He was brought to Dallas Police Headquarters where he has since admitted to his involvement in the murder and the aggravated assault. He will be taken to the Dallas County Jail where he will be held for the offense of Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Additional charges may be filed should it become appropriate to do so.

The Dallas Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a murder suspect involved in a shooting on Galicia Lane.

Detectives are also looking into whether or not an aggravated assault offense from last night on Kittyhawk Lane is related to this suspect. An arrest warrant for the offense of Murder has been issued for Danny Evelio Cruz.
