Keeping Dallas Safe: North Central Officers Arrest Burglary Suspect

On April 20, 2016, at approximately 6:45 pm, arresting officers responded to a call regarding a white male with a knife who took car keys belonging to another individual. The suspect was then seen going into an apartment complex in the 12000 block of Coit Road. Officers were flagged down by a witness who stated he believed the suspect was inside his apartment. Officers cleared the apartment and did not find the suspect at that location.

Another 911 call came out from a nearby apartment. The complainant stated the suspect knocked on the front door and presented a knife, demanding the complainant to go inside the apartment with him. When the suspect turned away from her, she fled out the front door, and the suspect barricaded himself inside. Officers entered the residence and determined the suspect was inside a bathroom. The officers began a dialogue with the suspect through the bathroom door. After approximately 2.5 hours of negotiation, an officer noticed that the suspect was flooding the apartment because water was coming out of the bathroom.

Shields were brought in and the door was kicked in. The suspect was observed holding a straightening iron. The decision was made to deploy the Taser at that time; the suspect was apprehended and transported to Lew Sterrett Jail. The suspect is being charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit a Robbery and Criminal Mischief.
