Employee Shoots Suspect during Robbery

The suspect in the Aggravated Robbery of the Metro PCS store has been identified as Matthew Wayne Richardson B/M 25.  Richardson died this afternoon as a result of the injuries sustained during the robbery.  Detectives continue the investigation into the incident and we will release additional information as it becomes available and appropriate to do so.

On April 28, 2016 at about 6:45 p.m., a 26-year-old Black male suspect entered the Metro PCS  store at 2614 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and attempted to rob the business at gunpoint. He ordered customers to lie down on the floor, however an employee in a back office heard the suspect’s demands and armed himself with a handgun.  The employee confronted and shot the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.   

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and the employee responsible for shooting the suspect.  We will release additional information as it becomes available and appropriate to do so.
