Owner Shoots Suspect During Business Burglary

On June 7, 2016, at about 4:30 a.m., four masked suspects burglarized a business in the 10300 block of Plano Road. The suspects gained access to the building by prying the front door. The business owner was in an upstairs room of the business and heard the suspects breaking in.  The owner walked downstairs and observed the suspects stealing cash from the business. The owner fired his handgun at the suspects who ran from the building to a nearby vehicle and sped off.

Thirty minutes after the burglary, Jacolby Tremone McCoy, a 29-year-old Black male, was dropped off at Doctor’s Hospital by unknown persons. Hospital staff discovered that Mr. McCoy was suffering from gunshot wounds and notified police.

Evidence collected at the scene, at the hospital, and witness testimony provided detectives with sufficient probable cause to charge Mr. McCoy with the burglary on Plano Road.

Mr. McCoy is hospitalized in critical condition. The business owner was not injured.
