El Fenix Mexican Restaurant celebrated “Mayor Mike Rawlings Day” by inviting Police Officers to a free lunch at their McKinney Avenue location in honor of the mayor. The holiday, created by El Fenix Mexican Restaurant, came about on August 9, 2015. While Mayor Rawlings’ dined at the Mexican restaurant he noticed a woman turning red and unable to breathe. Mayor Rawlings’ quickly sprang into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver saving the woman. On the 1 year anniversary of the mayor’s lifesaving actions El Fenix recognizes “Mayor Mike Rawlings Day” as a holiday and a way of showing appreciation to all Law enforcement officers for their commitment protecting the community.
