On August 24, 2016, at approximately 9:43 a.m., Officer Christopher Wagner, W/M, a 19 year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, conducted a traffic stop in the 3600 block of W. Davis St. The vehicle stopped, the suspect, Elias Portillo L/M 26~years~old, exited the vehicle and ran with a handgun in his hand. Officer Wagner pursued the suspect on foot while giving loud verbal commands. In the 400 block of Kramer St., the suspect turned towards the officer with a handgun. The officer gave loud verbal commands for the suspect to drop the gun and the suspect did not comply. The officer fired his weapon striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

On August 24, 2016, at approximately 9:43 a.m., a Dallas Police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 3600 block of W. Davis St. It appears at this time that the vehicle stopped and the suspect exited the vehicle and ran with a weapon in his hand. The officer pursued the suspect on foot while giving loud verbal commands. At some point the suspect turned towards the officer with the handgun. The officer fired his weapon striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. This investigation is open and active. We will release more information as it is available and appropriate to do so.
