As a common practice, the Department releases the names of those officers involved in a shooting.  However, because the involved officer works in an undercover capacity, we will not be releasing his name for the safety of the officer.  There are no further updates to report at this time.

On October 19, 2016, at about 9:39 a.m., a Dallas police deployment officer, working in a plainclothes capacity, was investigating a carjacking offense that occurred yesterday at approximately 8:00 p.m. While the plain clothes officer was in the 3500 block of Virginia Boulevard,  he observed the vehicle that was taken in the carjacking. At this point, the driver of the vehicle that was taken in the car jacking got out of the driver side approached the deployment officer armed with a hand gun. The officer discharged his duty weapon striking the individual,who died as a result of his injuries. The identity of the deceased is Anthony Garcia, Latin male 24. There were no officers injured.

During the course of the investigation, SWAT was notified due to a possibility of a second individual that entered a nearby residence. It was determined there were no additional persons inside the residence. This is an ongoing investigation and updates will be provided when it is appropriate.
