On October 20, 2016 at about 1:30 p.m., Dallas Police officers responded to a burglary in progress call in the 5500 block of Spring Valley Road. A witness called for police after she observed a suspicious individual looking around outside an apartment that she knew he didn’t live in and then enter the apartment through the window. The witness continued to watch as the suspect crawled back out of the window, replaced the screen and then wiped it down. As the witness stayed on the phone with 911, she was able to give the dispatcher a detailed description of the suspect and his direction of travel.
Responding officers were able to catch the suspect a short distance from the offense location. The suspect had a backpack containing various property that belonged to the victim. Officers were able to return all of the property back to the victim. The suspect, Deante Washington B/M/27, was arrested for Residential Burglary and transported to Lew Sterrett Jail.
Thanks to the outstanding observation by this vigilant citizen and the work of the North Central Patrol officers, this burglar is off the street and the victim was able to get all of his property back. This is a great example of how the teamwork between citizens and officers keeps our city safe. Remember, if you see something, say something.
