Officer Involved Shooting at 3000 Martin L. King Blvd

Detectives from the Special Investigative Unit located and interviewed independent witnesses that corroborate that arrestee Tradareon Choice, BM 18, produced a gun from his waist band when he was approached by uniformed Dallas Police officers. Officer Zachery Helm, #8859, fired his duty weapon striking the suspect in the leg. This is an ongoing and active investigation. As in all Dallas police officer involved shootings, the Dallas County District Attorney’s office will conduct an independent investigation.

On October 26, 2016, at approximately 4:27 p.m., METRO officers were in the 3000 block of MLK actively seeking the suspect, who had an active aggravated robbery warrant, from a carjacking offense that occurred in the past three days in the area. The officers attempted to approach the suspect, when the suspect fled on foot towards DISD officers across the street at which time he ran back in the direction of Dallas PD officers. As the suspect was running back towards Dallas officers the suspect produced a hand gun from his waist band. The officer then drew and fired his duty weapon and striking the suspect one time in the leg. The suspect was transported to Baylor Hospital with non life threatening injuries. No officer was injured during this incident.
