Several months ago, Dallas police officer Bryson Brown received some devastating news, his kidneys were failing and he was in desperate need of a donor. Not wanting other officers to feel sorry for him, Bryson kept his illness to himself. He did, in fact, share the overwhelming news with his family. Bryson’s father, former Dallas Police Sergeant DK Brown, his mother, and his sister were tested to see if they were a match, but sadly they were not. This did not keep Brown family down, but instead made it their mission to tell everyone Bryson’s story in hopes of finding a donor.
When the news reached the department, officers gathered together to quickly organize a fundraiser for Bryson. The fundraiser was put together and held at the Dallas Police Association where they raised over $2,000 dollars.
The night before the fundraiser, Bryson received an unexpected call from his academy classmate, Officer Josh Forner. Officer Forner’s brother-in-law, Payton McCarty, was in a tragic motor vehicle accident. Josh and his sister, Brittany McCarty, knew that Payton was an organ donor and had him tested for a possible match for Bryson. Behold, Payton was indeed a perfect match and the organ transplant was scheduled for the exact same day as the fundraiser. The surgery was a success, and the doctors were amazed how quickly Bryson’s body took to the new kidney. He is going home today!!!
Payton McCarty is surrived by his wife, Brittany, son Trevor, and daughter, Skylar of Grandview. With his generous organ donation, Payton was able to help not just Officer Bryson Brown, but also the lives of three others who are unknown. Officer Forner and his family have set up a GoFund me page to assist Payton’s family. Donations for the McCarty family can be made here on their GoFund me page or to the memorial fund that has been established at the Cowboy Bank of Maypearl.
