On December 13, 2016, the Dallas Police Department collaborated with the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) for the third year to help deliver Meals on Wheels this holiday season.
The VNA is a nonprofit organization, established in 1934 to help the elderly aged community in the comfort of their home. This caring organization provides services, knowledge, support, and necessary referrals to help thousands of North Texans. During the cold and busy holiday season, the VNA delivers hot freshly prepared meals to over 4,000 Dallas County residents in a program they call Meals on Wheels. Without the VNA and Meals on Wheels, these individuals would go hungry by themselves during the season where they should be surrounded by the warmth, love, and generosity of friends and family.
Dallas Police Department employees participated in the third City-Wide Day of Caring by delivering more than 250 meals to VNA Meals on Wheels clients. For every route delivered by volunteers, VNA Meals on Wheels saves enough money to feed another hungry senior for a week. It was a success and honor for our officers to be a part of this event.
