Spoof 911 Calls

The Dallas Police Department Communications/911 center has received numerous reports from citizens stating they have received a call from an individual(s) claiming to be a 911 operator who was attempting to verify their immigration status.  The caller attempted to obtain the citizen’s name, social security number, and proof of residency.

All citizens should be aware that Dallas Police Department 911 Operators do not check the immigration status of our citizens.  No Dallas Police Department personnel will call an individual requesting information for the purpose of determining immigration status.  These calls are a scam.

If you have received a call like this and provided the caller your social security number, the Dallas Police Department recommends you take the following steps to protect your identity:

  • Monitor your credit report
  • Fraud alerts on each of the three credit bureaus – Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian
  • Report the incident to Idenitytheft.com
