The Dallas Police Department is proud to support the 15th annual Click It or Ticket campaign by urging our citizens to buckle up. Last year in the City of Dallas, 43 people were killed in traffic crashes who were not wearing seat belts and an additional 137 people were seriously injured.
The Click It or Ticket campaign is all about saving lives. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that the Click It or Ticket initiative has saved 5,068 lives and prevented 86,359 serious injuries since 2002. Just in 2016 alone, there were 2,580 crashes in Texas in which unbuckled people sustained fatal or serious injuries.
In Texas, the law requires everyone in a vehicle to wear a seat belt and children under 8 years old are required to be in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches.
Buckling up is a no brainer and it is the #1 way to avoid being killed or seriously injured in a crash. Police departments all over the nation will be stepping up their efforts to enforce seat belt violations from May 22 to June 4. Always buckle your seat belt. Because if you don’t, you can count on one of us to remind you.
