Chief’s Ethics Awards for Police Kids

The 16th Annual Chief’s Ethics Awards for Police Kids was held today,  July 22, 2017. This program recognizes the sons and daughters of Dallas Police Department employees (sworn and non-sworn). The kids are recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in ethical achievement, volunteer community service, and school achievement for the school year 2016-2017.

This year’s event was held at the Double D Ranch with Interim Chief Pughes handing out the awards. After the awards ceremenony, attendees were served lunch and able to enjoy outdoor activities at the ranch. The event was once again a great success and could not have been possible without the generous donation from Mr. Cary Maguire, CEO and President of Maguire Oil Company.

This year’s 1st place winners are:

High School:

Ziaya Drakes (Accepting on her behalf is her father Mandrell Drakes)

Ziaya maintained the “A” honor roll for the entire school year and was valedictorian of her class with a 4.2 GPA. She was also nominated for Student Athlete of the Year and a member of the National Honor Society since the 6th grade. Ziaya is also a member of the Beta and Spanish club, Team Captain of her softball team, and volunteers with the youth department that assist the elderly and annual community activities. Congratulations Ziaya!

Junior High:

Barret Allen

Barret was on the “A” Honor Roll the entire year and received student of the year for Algebra I. He received the Dealey Junior Historian Award and is a member of the National Honor Society. Barret volunteers for Feed My Starving Children Charity at St. Ann’s Catholic Church and is a mentor for Dallas Stars Little Rookies. He received the Principal’s Award for attending school from Pre-K till 8th grade, plays basketball and hockey. Barret also sings in the choir and received the Certificate of Achievement for Superior  Rating Region XX Ensemble and Solo award. Congratulations Barret!

Elementary

Devin Thomas

Devin received a certificate for Perfect Attendance for the entire school year and an award for the “A-B” Honor Roll for the entire school year. He has also received a Distinguished Character Medal and a certificate for the Best Student. Devin was also recognized for being a valuable volunteer and completed the Six Flags Read to Succeed Program. He is also a member of the Safety Patrol at school. Devin has received outstanding achievement in Science, Reading, Math, Organizastion and Leadership Skills, English and Language Arts, and Social Studies. He has won the Citizenship Certificate and is also a basketball player for the Pacers. Congratulations Devin!
