The 17th Annual Asian Safety & Health Fair was held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the Hong Kong Market Place located at 9780 Walnut Street. With an average of 1,200 attendees every year, this event has become a great resource to build trust and positive relationships between the Asian community and the Dallas Police Department. Many volunteers and officers were available to translate a variety of the Asian languages. There were also booths set up with information from several city services as well as a variety of DPD units.
The citizens reveled at the wonderful entertainment. The event was kicked off by the traditional Dragon Dance, Pastor Butler’s invocation and the National Anthem by Soprano Kowoon Kim. A Thai musical performance, Filipino Dance and Korean Children’s Choir performance followed. There were many activities, food and fun available for the whole family. They also had a chance to meet Chief Hall who spoke at the event then mingled with the crowd.
Over 300 flu vaccines were provided as well as doctor’s consultations, vision screenings and testing for cholesterol, glucose and diabetes. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors; The North Texas Association of Philippines Physicians, Philippine Community Center International and Vietnamese Health Professional Association, Walgreens and Walmart for providing these services free of charge. The North Texas Food Bank also gave away 3,000 lbs. of produce.
If you missed it, plan to attend the next one!
