Bright and early in the morning, on October 19, 2017, at 8:00 a.m., the Dallas Police Department, Metro PCS Loss Prevention and Metro PCS individual store owners met in a conference room at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Dallas. This group of owners represented most stores in Dallas. The objective was to discuss offense prevention tips and target hardening after an increase in robberies at mobile phone stores was noticed. Loss Prevention Corporate personnel discussed adding surveillance cameras, security doors, safes, product trackers and increasing visibility inside the store by removing promotional advertisements and posters which would allow others to see what’s going on inside. Lieutenant Yancey Nelson, from the Dallas PD Robbery Unit, was the guest speaker. Lieutenant Nelson discussed current crime statistics, robbery prevention tips, and typical MOs used by suspects who target mobile phone stores.
Ethan Stubbs, Director Sales and Distribution for Metro PCS stated, “The goal of the conference is to aid in fostering a working relationship between the Dallas Police Department and Metro PCS by implementing proactive measures for a safer environment for customers and owners.”
“We hope to have similar conferences in the future with all mobile phone stores in our city and other businesses being targeted for robberies ,” said Lieutenant Nelson.
In the end, we all want the same thing, a safe and secure environment and stores that are less attractive to criminals.
