Every month the Dallas Community Police Awards Committee recognizes and honors one Dallas Police officer for their exemplary performance and civic involvement. Detective David Ruben Cervantez, #8101 assigned to the Financial Investigations Unit as a Forgery/Credit Card Abuse/Identity Theft/Exploitation of Elderly detective was recognized as the Officer of the Month for October 2017. Detective Cervantez has been on the department for 16 years and has received several commendations and awards for his outstanding work.
Detective Cervantez not only works hard on duty, but he is also a committee member of World Elder Abuse through Senior Source. Detective Cervantez’ commitment extends to the Dallas Police Department’s Basic Academy, Citizen’s Police Academy, Unidos Programs and Community Watch Meetings where he teaches Financial Crimes/ Identity Theft/Swindle/Exploitation of Elderly classes. Prior to his commitment to serve the citizens of Dallas, Detective Cervantez served honorably in the United States Air Force until his retirement in 2001 after 24 years of service.
In his nomination letter for Detective Cervantez, Sergeant Galvan wrote, “Detective Cervantez is a very reliable and hardworking detective.” His commitment to the citizens of Dallas drives him to continue his education in the financial crimes field in order to help combat the ever growing threat of fraud.
