In 2017, the Dallas Children’s Cancer Fund hosted its 29th annual Gala and 9th annual golf tournament which raised over one million dollars in donations for pediatric cancer research. Various funds were raised through donations as well as items and experiences auctioned off during a silent auction. Not only did the Dallas Police SWAT team attend the annual gala, they put together a once in a life time experience package to have “A Day with SWAT” auctioned off at the Gala and at the golf tournament. All the proceeds earned via the silent auction were received by the Children’s Cancer Fund to help further pediatric cancer research.
The day kicked off at the range where the golf tournament auction winner , Jack Armstrong and a few of his invited guest, had the opportunity to shoot various weapons used by the SWAT team. The weapons ranged from an M4 to a .50 caliber sniper rifle. Mr. Armstrong also repelled from a tower and made a tactical energetic breach entry into a building. He was tremendously excited to watch the K9 Unit in action. In addition, Mr. Armstrong also had the distinguished pleasure of meeting 8 year old Lauren Mauer who is a cancer survivor.
Though this is the first year “A Day with SWAT” has been auctioned off, the Dallas Police SWAT team hopes to continue to help the Dallas Children’s Cancer Fund raise money for this worthy cause.
