This past Saturday, the Dallas Police Department’s Office of Community Affairs and South Central NPO Unit partnered with Dallas Park & Recreation and the Beckley-Saner Recreation Center to host the first “Chief on the Beat Health & Safety Fair” for 2018. The Chief on the Beat is a family fun and friendly community engagement event where over 50 vendors participated and provided free information and services to the public. This year’s first “Chief on the Beat” had a Spring Clean Fling theme and had vendors onsite providing free services such as haircuts, document shredding, and a used cooking oil collection just to name a few. The day stepped off with a 1-mile Community Walk through the South Central neighborhood surrounding the recreation center. This was a great opportunity and fun twist to our “Chief on the Beat” events. The officers and members of the community, especially the children, had a blast dancing, playing games, building lasting relationships.
Due to its large success, the Dallas Police Department has been hosting the “Chief on the Beat” for over four years and will continue our efforts to put community first. Please join us at our next “Chief on the Beat” scheduled for Saturday, April 7th from 10am – 2pm, at the Samuell Grand Recreation Center located at 6200 Grand Avenue. This will be our yearly K9 edition, where we highlight the tremendous work of our very own DPD K9 Unit. It will be a great opportunity for families to bring out their very own K9. It won’t disappoint…see you there!
