May’s Officer of the Month – Detective Brewster Billings

The Dallas Community Police Awards Committee recognizes Detective Brewster Billings, #7626, as May’s Officer of the Month.  Detective Billings is a twenty-year veteran of the department and is currently assigned to the Crimes Against Persons Assaults Unit.  During his career, Detective Billings received an incredible 62 commendations.

According to his supervisor, Sergeant Bobbie Epperson, Detective Billings has an impeccable work ethic and is highly motivated to serve his community both on and off-duty.  Prior to joining the department, Detective Billings worked with at-risk youth and mentored children in the foster care system.  He has personally fostered around 40 children and continues to serve those in need.  In fact, his most recent benevolence was demonstrated when he encountered the children of a violent crime victim he was investigating.  When Detective Billings learned that the crime victim had lost his job, he and his wife adopted that family for the Christmas holidays and delivered presents to the children.

Detective Billings is one of the hardest working, most tenacious, and proactive detectives assigned to the unit.  He is known for relentlessly pursuing every lead on every case.  During 2017, Detective Billings led the Assault Unit with a 63% higher than average case filing, despite being on light duty for a quarter of the year.

This is just couple of the many examples of Detective Billings’ ability and desire to go above and beyond the call of duty, but are indicative of his daily work.  Sergeant Epperson sums it up best, “In Detective Billings, there is a unique combination of zeal, experience, and passion for police work that is rarely found in tenured police officers.  His ability to demonstrate all of these qualities simultaneously is laudable…He is everything that great police officers should strive to represent.”

Thank you, Detective Billings, for bringing great credit to yourself and the Dallas Police Department.
