June’s Officer of the Month Sergeant Michael Mata #7313

 

On June 13, 2018, Sergeant Michael Mata was awarded June’s Officer of the Month by the Dallas Community Police Awards Committee.  A luncheon ceremony was held in his honor at the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas, TX.

Sergeant Mata is a 22 year veteran of the Department and is currently assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division where he serves as a watch supervisor. He has also been previously assigned at the Major Crimes Division, Dallas Police Academy, and the Southeast and Central Patrol Divisions. Sergeant Mata is the Vice Chairman of the Assist the Officer Foundation who has helped countless of officers, and volunteers as an organizer for the Freedom Run.

Sergeant Miguel Jamaica, who nominated Sergeant Mata as Officer of the Month, had this to say, “I constantly see Sergeant Mata at association meetings, talking to the media, and writing articles. He tirelessly travels throughout the state and country to give Dallas officers a voice on policies, rules, procedures, and even laws. Sergeant Mata does all of this while stilling showing for work and supporting all officers at the station, not just his watch.”
