On June 14, 2018 at about 10:50 a.m., Deployment officers from the Central Patrol Division spotted a stolen vehicle driving in the 5000 block of Gaston Avenue. The driver of the vehicle pulled into an apartment complex and went inside.
The officer knew the vehicle had been taken in an Aggravated Robbery on June 5, 2018. The offense occurred when the victim and his son were playing catch at the baseball fields located near 1300 Drury Lane. The suspect approached the victim and his son and displayed a handgun demanding their vehicle. Fearing for their lives, the victim complied and the suspect fled the location in the stolen car.
Central Deployment, CRT, and Patrol officers staged outside the apartment waiting for the suspect to return. A short time later, the suspect got back into the vehicle and attempted to leave. The officers performed a felony traffic stop on the suspect and took him into custody without incident. Desmond Nelson, a 19-year-old Black male, was charged with Aggravated Robbery and transported to the county jail.
Great work by Central Deployment, Central CRT, and Central Patrol officers taking a violent felon off the streets! Thank you for working so hard and keeping Dallas safe!
