Update: Officer Involved Shooting: Mesquite PD

The shooting occurred after the suspect wrecked his vehicle and fled on foot. A Mesquite Police officer located the suspect next to a building secured by a chain-link fence at which point the suspect aggressively assaulted the officer. The injured officer and the suspect became involved in a struggle over the officer’s weapon. The suspect was able to take the weapon away from the injured officer and point it at him.

There were four officers that fired multiple rounds striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The suspect has been identified as Bobby Blade, a 29-year-old Black male. The injured officer was transported to the hospital with multiple fractures to the face. The officer has since been released and is recovering at home.

Three officers from the Mesquite Police Department, a 20 year veteran and two 6 year veterans and two officers from the Garland Police Department, a 16 year veteran and a 13 year veteran, were involved in the incident.

On June 25, 2018, at approximately 3:45 pm, Mesquite officers responded to a Suspicious Person call in the 2600 block of Towne Centre Drive. During their investigation of the call, Mesquite officers observed an individual matching the description on the call sheet. The suspect got into a vehicle and began to flee from the location. The Mesquite officers pursued the suspect which subsequently led them into the city of Garland. The pursuit came to an end when the suspect wrecked out on the northbound side of I-635 and Garland Road, Garland, Texas.

The suspect then fled from the accident scene on foot with Mesquite and now Garland officers involved. Mesquite and Garland officers were able to locate the suspect in the 12100 block of Self Plaza, Dallas, TX. A struggle ensued between the suspect and an officer. During the struggle shots were fired and the suspect was struck. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where his condition is unknown at this time. There were no officers shot, however, there was a Mesquite officer transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This shooting occurred in the city of Dallas, and will be investigated by the Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit on case number 138012-2018. This remains an ongoing investigation.
