On August 03, 2018, Senior Corporal Oscar Carrasco, #7524, was awarded August’s Officer of the Month by the Dallas Community Police Awards Committee. A luncheon ceremony was held in his honor at the Jewish Community Center located at 7900 Northhaven Road, Dallas, TX.
Senior Corporal Oscar Carrasco is a 20 year veteran of the Department and is currently assigned to the Gang Unit. He has also been previously assigned to the Central Patrol Division, and was assigned to the Federal Task Force attached to the FBI for eight years. Senior Corporal Carrasco’s knowledge of gangs and cartels is further utilized in instructing Dallas police recruits and other officers throughout the country on how to identify and investigate gangs.
While investing over 14 offenses to include; aggravated assaults, deadly conducts and felony criminal mischief, Senior Corporal Carrasco found the incidents to be related and committed by the same criminal organization. During the course of the investigation, Senior Corporal Carrasco identified an address, suspect vehicle, and developed a suspect name which led to the identification of the criminal organization and an arrest. An interview of the suspect resulted in a search warrant which yielded two firearms, over 400 rounds of ammunition, 196.06 grams of black tar heroin, 214.5 grams of meth, 116.0 grams of cocaine, 2,352.86 grams of Xanax, 832.6 grams of ecstasy, 351.6 grams of THC, and over $8,000.00 cash.
Sergeant Adrian Ballin, #7579, who nominated Senior Corporal Carrasco, stated, “Senior Corporal Carrasco has built a great relationship with the community which allows him to get integral information the unit otherwise would not be able to obtain. Because of his knowledge, compassion, dedication, passion and hard work his worth is immeasurable to the unit.”
