On August 21, 2018 at approximately 7:30 a.m., a Dallas officer came upon a utility van he suspected to be stolen in the 4100 block of Western Street. The van was being driven by a male suspect with a second suspect as the front seat passenger. The officer stopped the vehicle on traffic in the 4200 block of Western Street and ordered both suspects out of the vehicle. Once outside the vehicle, Suspect 2 (passenger) began to flee on foot between the houses. The officer gave chase on foot. After running behind the residences and nearly coming full circle, the second suspect came upon a third suspect driving a black Ford Fusion at the corner of Sunnyside Avenue and Western Street. Suspect 2 jumped on the hood of the Ford Fusion and instructed the driver of the vehicle to “go”. The officer grabbed hold of Suspect 2 and was holding on to him while the suspect driver of the Fusion was pulling away. The officer lost his grip when he was partially pulled under the vehicle and run over. The officer was taken to an area hospital where he is in good condition.
After the driver of the Ford Fusion fled with the suspect on the hood, he was subsequently apprehended by a patrol officer at Dryden Drive and Shelly Boulevard. However, Suspect 2 had escaped. The driver of the Ford Fusion has been taken into custody with charges pending. This incident is documented on case number 184962-2018.
