Shooting at 8500 N. Stemmons Freeway

On January 1, 2019, at approximately 2:56 a.m., Dallas Police were called to 8500 N. Stemmons Freeway regarding a shooting in the parking lot of a closed business.  The parking lot was being used as overflow parking for a nightclub hosting a New Year’s Eve event.  Officers determined a disturbance occurred in the parking lot involving a light skin black male victim, 34-years-old, whose name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.  After the altercation, the victim got into his white pick-up truck and attempted to leave the parking lot.  Several unarmed and armed security officers, from the neighboring nightclub, intervened and attempted to stop the victim from leaving.  When the victim backed up and attempted to leave ignoring their commands, security officers Daterrious Haggard, a black male, 25-years-old and Eric Hansen, a white male, 27-year-old fired their weapons multiple times into the victim’s truck.  The victim was shot multiple times and crashed into several parked vehicles in the parking lot.  He died from his injuries.

Security Officers Haggard and Hansen were detained and transported to Dallas Police Headquarters for an interview.  After being read their Miranda rights, they both waived those rights by agreeing to speak with detectives.  They both admitted firing their weapon at the victim.  During the course of the investigation, detectives were made aware of and reviewed a video circulating on social media that captured a significant portion of the incident.  Based on their interview, the social media video and witness testimony, Haggard and Hansen were both arrested and will be charged with murder.  Anyone with information regarding this case is still encouraged to contact Detective McDaniel at (214) 671-4236 or tonya.mcdaniel@dallascityhall.com.  Please refer to case #000116-2019.
