Shots Fired by DPD Officer – 2500 Vernon Avenue

At approximately 12:47 a.m. this morning, two Dallas Police Officers were protecting a crime scene in the street at 2500 South Vernon Avenue.  The officers had positioned their marked squad car to close several lanes of traffic but allowed the traffic to pass in the far right hand lane. A gray BMW sedan approached the scene driving erratically before turning onto Illinois Avenue. A short time later the vehicle approached again in the closed lanes.  One of the officers used his flash light to indicate to the driver to move over to the open lane. The vehicle did not stop and continued to toward the officer and a second officer discharged his firearm at the vehicle.  The first officer was able to avoid being ran over and the vehicle sped away. Shots were not fired at the officers.  Neither of the officers were hurt during the incident. The driver and vehicle have not been located at this time. Officers are following up on leads and attempting to locate the driver of the vehicle. Per Dallas Police Department policy, the officer who discharged his firearm has been placed on routine administrative leave.  The incident remains under investigation.
