Update May 23, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

On May 23, 2019, Michael Bluitt, a 22-year-old black male, was arrested for the murder of Brandon Mapps on May 17, 2019. Michael Bluitt was brought to Dallas Police Headquarters and interviewed by a homicide detective. Terrence Johns, a 29-year-old black male, was previously arrested on the date of the offense and provided a statement admitting to his role in the murder. Both Bluitt and Johns have been transported to Lew Sterrett Jail and charged with  capital murder, a capital felony.

On Friday, May 17, 2019, 12:13 a.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting call at the Preston Valley Apartments located at 5631 Spring Valley Road.  Upon arrival, officers found the victim Brandon Jovan Mapps, a 37-year old Black male, laying on the floor of an apartment with multiple gunshot wounds.  Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and pronounced the complainant deceased at the scene.
