On July 14, 2019, Mercy Street Complex hosted a football camp with the NFL, Energy Transfer and the Dallas Police Department. The Mercy Street Sports Complex launched the “Football to Faith” Camp with drills led by over 20 former NFL and CFL players and a shoe giveaway by Energy Transfer and the Dallas Police Department.
Over 2 years ago, Officer Brian Nolff, a 30-year veteran of Dallas Police Department, started a shoe drive that gave more than 650 kids a new pair of shoes. Officer Nolff is a Neighborhood Police Officer who works in the northwest area of Dallas. One day while patrolling, he noticed several youths in his area with worn out shoes. Brian wanted to do something for the kids, so he and his fellow officers decided to gather donated shoes. They collected more than 650 pairs of shoes from local businesses by going to various locations in Dallas and explaining their cause. Through a collaborative effort, the officers and businesses provided hundreds of new shoes for kids.
Since then, the Northwest Neighborhood Police Officers had the opportunity to partner with Energy Transfer and they were able to donate 1146 pairs of shoes to kids. On June 19, 2019, Energy Transfer employees joined the Dallas Police Department and handed out the 1146 pairs of shoes to kids in the community. While handing out the shoes, they noticed that they didn’t have shoes to fit some of the kids due to there size shoe. One teenager needed a size 17 ½ shoe for his feet. This led to the Northwest Neighborhood Police Officers reaching out to the Dallas Mavericks for bigger sizes shoes. The Dallas Mavericks joined the shoe drive effort and provided larger size shoes to kids in need.
Last Saturday, Northwest Neighborhood Police Officers, Energy Transfer, Dallas Mavericks and other Neighborhood Police Officers from the Southwest area were given the opportunity to deliver the larger size shoes to kids at the football camp. Parents were thankful and very appreciative of the officers’ hard work and dedication to making sure their children had comfortable fitting shoes to wear for the summer.
We are proud of all of our officers for their hard work and effort by going above and beyond the badge to help provide shoes for kids in our communities. We are thankful for the partnership we have with Energy Transfer and the Dallas Mavericks!
